In a commanding performance at Anfield, Liverpool secured the 2024–25 Premier League title with a resounding 5–1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on April 27, 2025. Cody Gakpo played a crucial role in the Reds' dominant display, scoring a vital goal that extended their lead to 3–1 in the first half. His clinical finish followed a corner that wasn’t fully cleared, showcasing the composure and timing that have made him a standout performer for the club this season.

What particularly caught the attention of fans was Gakpo's bold expression of faith as he wore a shirt reading, "I Belong to Jesus." This message, proudly displayed on his kit, became a symbol of his values and resonated with fans, reinforcing his strong sense of identity both on and off the pitch.

The match itself was filled with drama. Tottenham drew first blood in the 12th minute, with former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke putting the visitors ahead. However, Liverpool responded swiftly: Luis Díaz equalized in the 17th minute, followed by a powerful strike from Alexis Mac Allister in the 24th minute that put the hosts in the lead. Gakpo’s goal in the 34th minute provided Liverpool with a commanding advantage.

In the second half, Mohamed Salah added another goal in the 63rd minute, and an own goal by Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie in the 69th minute sealed the deal.

This victory not only earned Liverpool their 20th league title but also secured their spot in the upcoming Champions League. Under the management of Arne Slot, in his first season since replacing Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool’s tactical brilliance and resilience have been on full display.

After the match, Gakpo expressed his gratitude and optimism for continued success at the club. “I belong to Jesus, and I believe in His plan,” he stated, before encouraging his teammates to build upon this success and strive for excellence.

The atmosphere at Anfield was electric as fans celebrated the long-awaited triumph, with many attributing Gakpo's leadership on and off the field as a key factor in Liverpool's title-winning campaign. The Reds are now poised to pursue even more glory, equipped with a blend of experienced leaders and rising stars.

With this victory, Liverpool firmly establishes itself as one of Europe's elite clubs, and the future looks even brighter for the Reds.

What a historic and electrifying performance by Liverpool! The way they turned the game around after going down early to Solanke’s goal was pure class—Díaz’s equalizer set the tone, Mac Allister’s thunderous strike was a thing of beauty, and Gakpo’s composure in front of goal was ice-cold. But one thing the writer didn’t highlight enough was the relentless pressing and midfield dominance from Liverpool after conceding. The way Szoboszlai and Endo controlled the tempo, suffocating Tottenham’s buildup, was key to their collapse.
